Virtuosi retirement

John Hudson retires from Virtuosi GUS.

GUS

The Virtuosi GUS Band has informed 4BR that they would like to thank principal cornet John Hudson for his work and commitment over the last three years following his decision to retire from regular brass band playing.

Contribution

John, formally solo cornet for Grimethorpe Colliery and also Black Dyke, has been an integral part of the Virtuosi GUS Band setup for the past three years and has contributed to the band's recent successes.

John has had a long and successful career in brass banding, and here at the Virtuosi GUS Band followed in the steps of such players as David Read, Alan Morrison and Matt Baker to name just a few.

I have had a long and busy association with brass bands spanning over 35 years and now seems the right time to stop my cornet playingJohn Hudson

Right time

Speaking after the Cambridge Masters Contest, John gave some of the reasons behind his decision: "I have had a long and busy association with brass bands spanning over 35 years and now seems the right time to stop my cornet playing. In the past I have conducted bands, maybe it's now time to pick up the baton once again. I have had a wonderful time playing for the Virtuosi GUS Band and wish them all the very best for the future."

Success

Band Manager Shawn Pagington told 4BR: "John will continue with the Virtuosi GUS band until he retires later this year, and we would like to wish him every success in his new pursuits. An announcement concerning his replacement will be made later this summer."
