Thundersley Brass Band took part in a historic footballing occasion when they played at the last ever game at Layer Road, home of Championship side Colchester United FC on the weekend.
The first ever game at the stadium, in 1937, saw the goalkeeper pick up a bugle and play the "Posthorn Gallop" as the teams entered the pitch. The piece has been used ever since.
The "Posthorn Galop" was reprised at the end of the postmatch celebrations (despite Colchester losing 1-0, and being relegated) and featured on the BBC1 Final Score programme4BR
Short straw
On this occasion solo horn player David Howell drew the short straw, and was handed the post horn, accompanied by the band. The crowd were entertained once more at half time, and many present were moved by a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone", which was featured live on Sky Sports News.

To close proceedings, and queue the start of a rampant firework display, the band played a version of club anthem "Up the U's" followed by a tear-jerking "Last Post"!
