Black Dyke euphonium star, David Thornton will be performing this Sunday at the Scottish Brass Band Association’s ‘Brass Band Day’.
The event is hosted by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, a venue not unfamiliar with Thornton as he is currently the euphonium tutor at the Academy.
Great honour
David told 4BR: "It’s a great honour to be invited to play at this event again, Scotland has one of the most pro-active band scenes and it’s very encouraging to see events like this flourishing. To share the stage with James Gourlay and Simone Rebello will always be exciting!"
David will be performing twice during the day. At 4.30pm he will give a short recital in the Guinness Room and almost immediately afterwards will perform with the West Lothian Schools Band and Nigel Boddice.
'My Mountain Top’ features David accompanied by synthesisers and a pre-recorded narration by performance poet Lemn Sissay4BR
Mountain Top
The recital will feature ‘My Mountain Top’ by saxophonist Andy Scott, who’s Tuba Concerto ‘Salt of the Earth’ was a recent hit at the RNCM’s Festival of Brass.
'My Mountain Top’ features David accompanied by synthesisers and a pre-recorded narration by performance poet Lemn Sissay.
Great mix
The audience will also be treated to Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Neath The Dublin Skies’ during which David will be accompanied by a RSAMD Brass Quintet.
David added: "The recital includes a great mix of music, from the soft, evocative synth pads in My Mountain Top to the virtuosity and excitement of Lovatt-Cooper’s Irish showpiece!"
