There is live-streamed brass band contesting action to enjoy this weekend (22nd & 23rd August) from the New South Wales State Band Championships in Penrith.
The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre is hosting the Band Association of NSW's 130th anniversary event where 79 brass and concert bands will perform. The first official 'Inter-Colonial Contest' promoted under the auspices of the Band Association of NSW took place in September 1896 in Parramatta.

Welcome
The bands were welcomed by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, as well as Jeff Markham, President of the Band Association of NSW and the Mayor of Penrith. The adjudicators for the event are Simon Reade, Stephen Williams, Claire Reade, Matthew Van Emmerick and Jared McCunnie.
The bands in the A and B Grade perform a set test-piece, own choice work and sacred item, whilst the C, D and Youth Grades perform a test-piece, own choice work and sacred item.
