The annual Pontypridd Brass Band Festival has been hailed a great success following a weekend packed with concerts, workshops, lectures and music.

Highlights included a lecture by Dr Robert Childs, popular 'Learner's Workshop' and 'Blast The Brass' sessions, an exhibition at Pontypridd Museum and free concerts around the town and on the centenary celebrating Ynysangharad War Memorial Park Bandstand.

Premieres

The music featured by 17 bands and ensembles included the world premiere of 'Y Goleuni Disglair', which celebrated the bandstand centenary from composer Dr Neil Day, and 'Metropulence' by Gwyncy Jones performed by Lewis Merthyr Band.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Thank you to our sponsors, particularly Pontypridd Town Council for allowing us to cap off this year's Tymor Yr Haf and to the Ynysangarad War Memorial Park Trustees for their support. They added: "The Pontypridd Brass Band Festival is so important to the cultural heritage and future of the town and to the development of the local brass band movement.
