Norwegian composer Ingebjørg Vilhelmsen has been presented with the International Achievement Award by the Norwegian Music Publishers Association.
As previously reported on 4BR her initial nomination in the International Progress category recognised her, "strong and growing international presence" with her music growing in popularity and critical acclaim across the brass band world.
Leading figures
In its award statement, the jury emphasized that Vilhelmsen "has done everything right" in building her career and that she had "firmly established herself among the leading figures in her field".
The recognition is particularly notable as the prize is awarded in competition with Norwegian composers and songwriters across numerous genres, including jazz and popular music.
Prominence
Her work first came to prominence in 2023 at the Norwegian National Championships in Bergen, where her composition 'The Cosmographic Mystery' was heard. It has subsequently been performed in North American, Australia and France.
Vilhelmsen gained further recognition in 2024 as she was voted 4BR 'Newcomer of the Year', whilst in 2025 her work 'Embracing Duality' made a significant impression as the set-work in the Challenge Section of the European Championships in Stavanger, subsequently being used as the First Division set-work at the Belgian National Championships.
Other compositions such as 'Headland Fantasy' have been used at the Dutch and Swedish National Championships, whilst 'Radioactive Discoveries' was the set-work for the Championship Section at the Swedish Championships alongside 'Pegasus' (Second Division).
