Tredegar Band is to pay tribute in March to one of the most important musical figures in its 150 year history.
The special memorial concert in Swansea on Saturday 28th March (3.00pm) will honour the memory of not only Brian C Buckley, but also that of his much loved son Richard and that of Brian's father Con Buckley.
Family connection
The Buckley family connection to Tredegar has spanned a century and more — first through Con Buckley as a player and then conductor, followed by Brian, who was to become its principal cornet.
In later years his advice and support, including becoming a very proud Band President saw him become a regular visitor from his home in Swansea to the bandhall in Tredegar, as well as at numerous concert events.
Although Richard never played with the band, he also became a supporter as he enjoyed what was to be an outstanding professional career as an orchestral percussionist.
Remarkable contribution
Speaking to 4BR, MD Ian Porthouse said: "The remarkable contribution made by the Buckley family to Tredegar Band can be seen by simply walking into the bandroom. There are pictures of Con and Brian still looking down at us every rehearsal.
This concert is a real honour for the band to thank the Buckley family for a century and more of dedication, passion and excellence — and one that we hope to continue to do them proud in future years."
He added: "The concert will be full of great music — all linked in some way to Brian and the family, so please come along and enjoy a wonderful concert of a great musical man and his family."
