4BR has been informed of the death of Littleborough Brass player Damian Jackson, one of its longest serving members.
A highly talented musician and committed bandsman, at some point in his career he held most seats around the band — from soprano and principal cornet to flugel, horn, baritone, euphonium and even percussion.
An inspirational teacher of youngsters in leading Littleborough's junior band and beginners, he was also bandmaster for many years and a dedicated committee member.
Battles
A spokesperson told 4BR: "For the past 14 years Damian has battled against brain tumours and so often after intense surgery returned to the band to be with his banding family and make music."
His last performances were in 2024 where he helped the band win the Holme Valley Contest, experience a successful Whit Friday and played at Brass at the Seaside in Lytham St Anne's.
The spokesperson added: "Damian will be missed by all who played alongside him, but we will always remember his fabulous sense of humour, including his many festive 'dancing hats'."
Funeral
The funeral will take place on Monday 19th January (2.20pm) at Rochdale Crematorium.
A band will play at the funeral and Littleborough would like to reach out to any previous members who played alongside Damian, to come and join us for his final cortege.
The band will also play some of Damian's favourite brass band pieces at the celebration of his life which will take place at Littleborough Cricket Club.
If you would like to play in this band, please contact Littleborough Brass Band through their Facebook page.
