The heroic actions of soldiers of the 1st Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment at the 'Battle of Imjin River' during the Korean War, is to be marked at a special fundraising concert that will feature a new march written by Tommy Tynan.
Battle
'Gloster Hill' takes its title from the English name given to the battle that took place over four days in April 1951 and which saw forces of the United Nations defend their position against overwhelming numbers of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army.
Several soldiers of The Gloucestershire Regiment came from The Forest of Dean, and thanks to the research, their service and sacrifice is now being commemorated with a memorial that will be unveiled.
Honoured
Speaking to 4BR, the composer and Black Dyke tuba player said: "I'm honoured to be writing this march for this concert. 'Gloster Hill' commemorates the 'Glorious Glosters' actions notably at the Battle of the Imjin River and throughout the conflict.
While working at the Forest of Dean District Council I immediately offered to contribute to the event having seen how hard the team worked on the project. After the concert the march will be available to purchase, with 50% of every sale donated to the fund raising efforts."

Memorial
Rebecca Berrow, Chairperson of Forest of Dean Brass added: "We are also honoured to be able to perform Tommy's new work.
The band has close links to the Glorious Glosters Association with the band's President Rojer Phelps having served in The Gloucestershire Regiment and members playing each year at the anniversary service in Gloucester.
With the new memorial being installed in the heart of the Forest of Dean, the band were very keen to support this project."
