There was the most welcome of return visitors to Tredegar Band this week, as Alwyn Powell, the Welsh Champion's longest serving member dropped in to listen to preparations for their forthcoming concert at Llandaff Cathedral on Saturday 5th July.
It was Alwyn's first visit back following a short spell in hospital and home recuperation after he broke his hip in a fall that took place on his 92nd birthday.
Rarely misses
Alwyn has rarely missed a rehearsal or band performance since joining Tredegar in his father's footsteps over 85 years ago — including marching with the band on their Whit Friday appearances in 2024.
One this occasion he was driven from his home by his daughter Nicola, who also played in the band and was welcomed by MD, Ian Porthouse and the players.
Thrilled
"It's hasn't been the same for us at rehearsals without having Alwyn,"Ian said. "We are all thrilled he's back in time to hear his band in action at Llandaff Cathedral and in Tredegar next weekend."
