The life of the iconic musician Denis Wick will be celebrated at a special memorial concert in London this week.
The free event, which is open to all music lovers, takes place at Regent Hall on Oxford Steet on Thursday June 5th at 1.00pm.
It will feature a number of leading exponents of the instrument including Matthew Gee, Christopher Houlding, Isobel Daws and Brett Baker.
Students from the RCM, Guildhall School, Trinity Laban and a trombone ensemble from the RAM will also be featured, whilst the conducting duties will be shared by Dudley Bright and Eric Crees.
Celebrate
Speaking to 4BR, Stephen Wick said: "I'm so pleased that we are featuring so many talented young players to celebrate my father and his work. He was always immensely dedicated to producing the next generation of trombonists."
This element of his inspiration will see performances given by the quartet Slide Action and the prize-winning brass quintet Connaught Brass.
Music
The music performed will include pieces written for, arranged by and recorded by the former Principal Trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Composers featured will include Gordon Jacob with his 'Trombone Octet and Trombone Concerto'; Buxton Orr ('Sketches for Trombone Quartet') and Holst ('The Moorside Suite' arranged by Denis for Brass Quintet).

Grand finale
Stephen added: "One of my father's favourite composers was Korngold and Christopher Houlding, one of his many distinguished ex-students, will play Peirrot's 'Tanzlied' from 'Die tote Stadt', accompanied by Elliot Launn."
The grand finale will be played by 16 trombones, featuring valve and alto trombones in arrangements taken from the Bones Galore album originally recorded in 1969, which featured Denis Wick on alto trombone, an instrument for which he had a special fondness.
