A new award in memory of Jonathan Bound, the former baritone player with Tredegar Band will be presented for the first time at the Welsh Open Entertainment Contest in Newport on the weekend.
Jon, who was an integral part of the band for over 15 years passed away unexpectedly aged just 49. He was also a regular 'dep' for bands at the Welsh Open contest over the years, where he enjoyed himself enormously on and off stage with friends.
Trophy
Close on £1000 came from members of the band, friends, and associates to purchase a silver trophy and flight case for its protection to be presented to the 'Best Baritone' at the event, with the award being made for the first time on Saturday 15th February at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport.
The only proviso is that it is presented with a smile, that we raise a glass in celebration and give a 'Yeehaw' shout to him on the dayIan Porthouse
Fantastic person
The engraved trophy was brought for the band to see at rehearsal this week with MD Ian Porthouse telling 4BR: "Our thanks for organising this award goes to Jon's friend Stephen 'Fly' Harris, who knew Jon on and off stage for so many years.
It's great way to maintain the memory of a fantastic person at an event he enjoyed so much being part of.
The only proviso is that it is presented with a smile, that we raise a glass in celebration and give a 'Yeehaw' shout to him on the day."
