A new brass festival is set to be held in Chiswick in February with a focus on different aspects of brass performance.
Organised by Tom Torley, a recent graduate of the Royal College of Music, its aim is to inspire and develop the current and future generations of brass musicians.
Performances
It will be held at St Paul's at Grove Park in Chiswick on Saturday 22nd February (10.00am — 9.30pm).
The day will feature performances from the Wigfield Brass Quintet, the horn octet COR8, the West London Tuba Quartet, The Funnybones trombone quartet and the Symphonic Brass Ensemble. In addition, there will be a masterclass given by Lee Tsamaklis, principal tuba of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Pictures
The ensemble finale will feature performances of Elgar Howarth's masterful arrangement of 'pictures at an Exhibition' as well as 'Fanfare for the Common Man', Eric Crees's arrangement of Bernstein's suite from 'West Side Story' and Walton's 'Spitfire Prelude and Fugue'.
Speaking to 4BR he said: "The event has been organised by a group of passionate musicians with a vision to inspire the next generation of players.
As RCM graduates with a deep love for brass music, our mission is to encourage children, amateur musicians, and aspiring professionals to explore the joy of playing brass instruments."
Tom added: "This is our first project, and we hope it will lead to many more. If you are in the area please come along and enjoy what's on offer. It's a full day and we are covering a lot of bases with wonderful performers."
