The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain has launched its second Young Composer Competition.
It is open to composers up to the age of 30 (on 1/1/2025) and offers the opportunity to submit an original work for brass band, lasting between three and six minutes in duration.
Six works (three winning entries and three runner-up) will be rehearsed and performed at NYBBGB courses and concerts in 2025.
The winners will each receive a cash prize of £750 and a mentoring opportunity. Each runner up will receive a cash prize of £250 and feedback via one-to-one coaching with a member of the judging panel.
Build on success
Speaking to 4BR, CEO Mark Bromley said: "We are keen to build on the success of the first competition which was won by Daniel Hall with his work, 'Dieu Et Mon Droit' which was subsequently performed by the National Youth Band on its 2023 Summer course conducted by Sarah Ioannides."

Commissions
Such was the quality of the entries that runner-up Lennert Van Laenen from Belgium had his piece performed by the Children's Band, conducted by Mareika Gray and there were highly commended works submitted by the likes of Jack Yagerline (which was also performed by the Youth Band) and Charlotte McGregor Graham.
The NYBBGB subsequently commissioned both Daniel Hall and Charlotte McGregor-Graham to write new works — with Charlotte's 'Mega-Mix' a huge hit with the performers and audience at the recent Childrens' Band Summer Course Concert in Manchester.
