A new brass band friendship was forged recently when Jersey Premier Brass hosted East London Brass at their Channel Island home.
Packed audience
The bands gave a joint concert to a packed audience at St Helier Town Hall, an occasion which saw Jersey Premier Brass led by Jason Mildren give the premiere of 'Soaring the Heights' by Christopher Bond.
Jayne Murrill and East London Brass also showcased their top flight credentials with their sparkling playing, including a wonderful rendition of Stravinsky's 'The Firebird' to close the first half.
The concert concluded with a powerful massed band performance of the march from 'The Pines of Rome'.
The visitors also enjoyed playing to a large and appreciative audience at the picturesque Howard Davis Park on the Sunday with a programme jam packed with solo features and crowd pleasing repertoire.
Pleasure
Speaking about their visit, hosts Jersey Premier Brass said: "It was a pleasure to welcome East London Brass to Jersey. Thanks to Jayne Murrill and all the East London Brass organising committee and players for a great weekend.
Special thanks also must go to Robert Horrocks for his vision for this to happen, to our players and helpers and to Sam and all staff at Café Spice for a brilliant band curry celebration!"
Wonderful weekend
In return a spokesperson for East London Brass added: "We would like to thank our friends at Jersey Premier Brass for their great hospitality and hope to return to Jersey in the near future.
Both bands enjoyed a wonderful weekend of music making and look forward to future collaborations."
