4BR has been informed of the death of the respected player and conductor Brian Anderson. He passed away on 9th April following a long period of care.
Banding career
His banding career spanned 61 years, having first learnt to play trumpet aged 13 at Salt Grammar School in Saltaire. He later joined Hall Royd Band for a period of 16 years, playing cornet and soprano, before moving to Haworth Band.
During this time his interest in arranging and conducting was developed and he made valuable contributions in both to the band.
In 1995 he joined Skipton Band as a player, conductor and arranger, as well as becoming conductor of Giggleswick and Settle Brass Band.
Fire service
In 2005 he left Skipton to become Deputy Musical Director of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Band, enabling him to further all elements of his extensive skill set. It was to be the most fulfilling tenure of his musical life.
A highly regarded Environmental Health Manager at Bradford Council, he retired in 2017 aged 68.

He was married to Gillian for almost 53 years and the loving father of children David and Rosemary and proud granddad of Ewan.
His funeral was held on Friday 17th May was very much a musical celebration of his well lived life.
