Euphonium Foundation UK, in collaboration with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is to present a special 'Euphonium Focus Day' in Cardiff later this month.
Free event
The free event will be led by a trio of exceptional euphonium virtuosos in David Childs, Dr Robert Childs and Steven Mead, and will centre on music making and tutoring with delegates that will culminate in an informal performance featuring participants, artists and the RWCMD Euphonium Ensemble.
Tuition and guidance will be offered to participants of all levels on Saturday 27th May (10.00am — 4.00pm) — from beginner to advanced, through a variety of fun classes and ensemble opportunities.
Participants will also have the opportunity to hear the trio of stars perform, before joining the RWCMD Euphonium Ensemble on the Dora Stoutzker Hall stage for an informal performance of their own.
Icons
Speaking to 4BR, David Childs said: "I'm looking forward to working alongside two icons of euphonium playing and teaching to present this first educational event for Euphonium Foundation UK.
I set up the Foundation fifteen years ago to help commission substantial new works for euphonium and raise the instrument's profile. Great progress has been made, but it seems there are fewer euphonium players today, particularly at grass roots level, so I want to broaden the foundation's objectives to support and encourage players of all ages and abilities.
This Euphonium Focus Day is the first of several exciting projects we have planned for the future."

All ages and abilities
He concluded: "We're extremely grateful to the RWCMD and Besson for partnering with us for this event and we look forward to welcoming euphonium and baritone players of all ages and abilities later this month. All you have to do is get in touch."
