English trio makes its mark in Sweden

The talented trio of Alicia Davis, Jamie Reid and Alex Thomson are representing England as part of the European Youth Brass Band.

A trio of talented young English brass band performers have headed out to Malmo to enjoy the experience of being part of the 2023 European Youth Brass Band (EYBB).

The EYBB provides opportunities for talented players from participating European countries to play at the international event which will be broadcast around the globe.

The EYBB will undertake a number of concerts as well as being part of the European Soloist Competition, opening ceremony and the Gala Concert.

The trio of English representatives chosen by Brass Bands England (BBE) in consultation with a panel made up of brass performance experts from across the English conservatoires are Alicia Davis, Jamie Reid and Alex Thomson.

Alicia

Alicia is a cornet student at the Royal Northern College of Music and has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. She is currently playing with British Open champion Brighouse & Rastrick.

Jamie

Jamie hails from the ranks of Lions Youth Brass in Cheshire and has played both euphonium and baritone with Foden's Youth Band, Cheshire Constabulary and Roberts Bakery, and has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

He later took up trombone and has been a member of the trombone sections of the Hallé Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra. He is now in his third year studying at the Guildhall School.

Alex

Alex Thomson is a cornet student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and is also a product of the Cooperative Youth Band, Lions Youth Brass and Foden's Youth Band.

He moved to soprano with Lions Youth Brass and during sixth form college he began playing with Roberts Bakery Band as well as enjoying playing with big band and jazz ensembles.

England will also be represented at the European Championships by Black Dyke Band in the Championship Section and Youth Brass 2000, Wardle Academy and Elland Silver Youth bands in the Youth Contest.

Speaking about the representation, BBE Chief Executive Officer Kenny Crookston told 4BR: "We wish all our representatives the very best of luck, in what we are sure will be another fantastic event.

Delph Band

May 15 • We are seeking an enthusiastic and musically skilled Associate Conductor to lead and develop our band alongside our current Musical Director Phil Goodwin. . Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 8-10pm at Delph Band Club.


Tintwistle Band

May 15 • We have a vacancy for a soprano cornet, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up we would love to get this seat filled!. We rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom in Tintwistle, under the baton of our superb MD, Jim Henson.

May 11 • We are looking for PERCUSSIONISTS to join us as we head into an exciting period for the band.Good and varied diary ahead.. We rehearse on Wednesdays in our own bandroom (so none of that tedious setting up and down)
