There have been some comings and some long goings at Friary Band following their qualification for the National Final at the Royal Albert Hall later this year.
Two key long term performers Mike Trumble (euphonium) and Chris Pannell (tenor horn) have left the band, with Mike saying: "I've enjoyed ten of the most musically fulfilled years since joining in 2012, playing fantastic music alongside fantastic friends in some of the most iconic venues."
Mike, who is also passionate about performing renaissance and baroque music has decided the time has come to concentrate on those interests.
Meanwhile, Chris, whose family and work commitments have led him to take the difficult decision added: "I'd like to thank everyone for all the wonderful memories and friendship and wish them the best for the future."
Terrific bandsmen
In response, Band Chairperson, David Wicks said: "Both Mike and Chris have been terrific bandsmen and great players who have made a significant contribution our progress over the past years. We'll miss them as players and friends, and we sincerely hope our paths will cross again at some point."
Meanwhile, the horn and euphonium pairing of Kelly Harrison and Sam Noden will be leaving their instruments at home on Sunday to don running shoes for the London Marathon.
Both have good reason to raise funds for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) with Kelly and her children having been supported by SSAFA in the past, and Sam an RAF musician.
"I went into the military because few jobs cover both my passions: fitness and music,"explained Sam. "I know veterans who have struggled on leaving service and SSAFA has helped them. I'm really pleased to raise funds for them."
