Tredegar has welcomed its latest signing as the band prepares for its Brass in Concert appearance and a busy end to 2022.
Sion Rhys Jones returns on solo euphonium after enjoying a successful time at Cory Band, with the move enabling him to further develop his leadership as MD of Crosskeys Band as well as his teaching career.
Superb musician
Sion previously played with Tredegar whilst studying at the RWCMD in Cardiff, with Musical Director Ian Porthouse telling 4BR that he was delighted to welcome him back.
"Sion is a superb musician and we are thrilled he has returned. We have been very fortunate in having wonderful performers on solo euphonium with us over the past few years, and Sion further enhances that line.
It's a huge boost at the end of what has been a memorable year — and one which we can build on in 2023 with Sion as an integral part of it."
Ideal move
In response Sion said: "It's an ideal move for me and it's good to be back.
I have enjoyed a great time with Glyn Williams at Cory over the last couple of years, but Tredegar offers the ideal balance for what I want to do next, and their musical outlook and plans really inspire me."

Thanks
Ian also took the time to thank euph stars Valentin Duc and Glenn Van Looy who played at the British Open and National Finals respectively, as well as horn player Paul Bennett who has played throughout the past year.
"With Yu-Han Yang returning to Taiwan we were grateful to Valentin and Glenn for joining us for the two major contests. They were fantastic temporary additions to the band, whilst Paul has been a superb bandsman and performer with us during the past 12 months. My thanks go to them all."
