Mode for... to continue essential mental health focus

Tabby Kerwin will host a free 'Suicide Prevention Course' to inform the brass band movement about the assistance they can give to help others.

Mental health
The course led by Tabby Kerwin is free

Following the recent World Mental Health Day, Tabby Kerwin, owner of Mode for… has announced that she will be hosting a free 'Suicide Prevention Course' with a focus on helping people in brass band movement.

It will form part of a special 'Brass on the Mind' course that will take place on 5th November.

Accredited programme

'Suicide First Aid — Understanding Suicide Interventions' is the UK's national qualification in suicide prevention.

It is the only externally accredited programme of its type on the Regulated Qualification Framework and is accredited by City and Guilds of London, with the option of extending the course into a Level 4 qualification.

Aim

Tabby told 4BR: "It's my aim to not only focus on the mental health and wellness of musicians in our brass bands but to help place better support in place and where possible provide subsidised training for musicians."

The UK had over 6000 reported suicide deaths in 2020.

Tabby added: "Our brass bands give an amazing environment in which to support people, and with increased knowledge we can all help save lives. This free course will allow the opportunity to raise awareness and learn how to start difficult and sensitive conversations."

Course Content:

The course is a one-day online course from 9.30am-4.30pm and is comprised of 4 parts, each approximately 90 minutes duration.

The programme teaches the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.
