Music and mental health comes under the spotlight this weekend on Radio 3.
Radio 3 arts programme 'Music Matters' will mark World Mental Health Day on Saturday 8th October in a special programme.
Presenter Tom Service in collaboration with Dr Sally Marlow, a mental health specialist at King's College London and BBC Radio 3's Researcher in Residence, will present the special programme at 11.45am.
Brass band focus
They will be joined by composer Gavin Higgins who will talk about how brass bands helped him deal with the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, whilst writer, player and mental health advocate Tabby Kerwin discusses mental health within the brass band movement.
The programme also visits Bethlem Gallery to meet Gawain Hewitt and Fiona Lambert from City of London Sinfonia's 'Sound Young Minds' project, a music-making programme with young people under the care of psychiatric hospitals.
In addition, Daisy Fancourt talks about a large-scale study looking at how singing can be used to treat postnatal depression and James Sanderson from NHS England sets out what he sees as music's role in social prescribing.

Music Minds Matter
All this and Help Musicians CEO James Ainscough talks about the recent increase in musicians from the industry seeking help from their new charity, 'Music Minds Matter', whilst the programme is in Crook in County Durham to catch up with the community arts organisation Jack Drum Arts which provides music sessions to help support the mental health of local children and youngsters.
