Duncan Beckley has been appointed to the Kapitol Promotions Music Panel — the body that selects the test-pieces for the Regional Championships and National Championship Finals of Great Britain.

Experience

The vastly experienced conductor, band trainer, adjudicator and educator is a member of The Royal College of Music and a Fellow of Trinity College of Music. He has a degree in Music from Sheffield University, a PGC from Leeds University, and a MA in Education from Leeds University.

He was awarded the 2022 Mortimer Medal in recognition of his pioneering work in promoting social inclusion in the brass band movement.

His conducting career spans six decades and all sections of competition — his first success coming in 1978 and his 99th and latest victory earlier this year. He has widespread adjudication experience — from Whit Friday contests to Regional and National Championship appointments.

Great asset

Speaking about the appointment, Music Panel Chairman, Philip Morris said: "Duncan's musical experience will be a great asset to the Panel, and we look forward to working with him".

He joins Brian Buckley, Dr Robert Childs, Samantha Harrison, John Maines and Sandy Smith.

Delighted

In response Duncan said: "I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with this Panel of experienced musicians, and I look forward to using my knowledge from the band room in a whole new context".
