Haverhill Silver Band has been keeping busy since August with a proactive schedule of socially distanced and more recently, weekly rehearsals in a Covid safe venue.
Spokesperson, Richard Pannell told 4BR: "It has given the band a boost of collective confidence as well as understanding with some members unable to attend due to personal restrictions.
However, we have maintained a nearly full complement by inviting ex-members and previous deps with the band to fill these chairs."
New quartet
The band has also welcomed four new signings, with David Aves bringing 40 years of widespread experience to the first horn role.
Former Black Dyke and Fairey player Steve Drury has also come in on flugel horn. Steve is the Director of Music of the Essex Youth Brass Ensemble, a brass instructor for the Essex Youth Orchestra and the Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
Horn and bass trom
Meanwhile, Peter Mackley has rejoined on horn — although he will also cover just about every position when needed. Peter has also conducted bands in the area and for several years has successfully guided Cottenham Brass.
Finally, Adam Waterson comes in on bass trombone. The Cambridge University graduate played baritone with City of Cambridge Band in addition to a range of University Orchestras and groups. He joined Waterbeach Brass in 2017 on solo trombone but now takes the bass trom role.
