Mental health advocate Tabby Kerwin has announced the first of several online Mental Health First Aid Courses, certified by Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA), exclusively aimed at people in brass bands in England.
Common interest
The director of Mode for… told 4BR: "The first aid training is excellent for the workplace and personal learning, but I'm setting-up these courses just for bandspeople so we have groups of like-minded people with a common interest to support the musicians in their own bands and the wider brass band movement."
Tabby informed 4BR that due to MHFA guidelines, the courses are available at present only for people resident in England.
Ambition
She added: "MHFA has an ambition to train 1:10 people as a first aider and that equates to 2-3 people gaining the certification in each band.
It's my mission to not only encourage people to train as a mental health first aider in order to help save lives and support better mental health, but to also make the training accessible to bands."
With bands unable to rehearse right now, it is a great time to invest that rehearsal time into benefitting your band in other ways and supporting the mental health of brass band musicians has never been so important.
I have set the online training dates for 4 'rehearsal' evenings over two weeks."
