Student quartet aims for ITEC competition

A low brass quartet from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is aiming to raise funds to travel to compete at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Ensemble Competition in the USA.

Birmingham
The 'When Tuba Come One' quartet will hopefully head to the USA later this month.

An award winning quartet from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is looking to raise £2,500 to cover the cost of taking part in the prestigious ITEC (International Tuba and Euphonium Conference) Ensemble Competition in the USA later this month.

The low brass quartet 'When Tuba Come One' was formed by Amy Ewen (baritone), Ben Smith (euphonium) and tuba players James Hobbis and Mark Dilley.

Passionate

Amy told 4BR: "We are the only quartet from Europe to reach the semi- finals of the competition which will be held at the University of Iowa School of Music from the 25th May to 1st June.

We are all passionate brass band performers and are relying on the support of fellow banders to help us represent the UK."
