The remarkable history of the brass band movement in Wales is to be the subject of a lecture given by the renowned academic and musicologist Prof Trevor Herbert next month.
It will be part of the series of South Wales Miners' Library annual lectures and will be held at Onllwyn Welfare Hall on Thursday 20th June (6.30pm).
The hall is renowned locally as 'The Palace of Culture' due to its exceptional support of the arts since it was opened in 1955, and was also used in the BAFTA award winning film 'Pride'.
The lecture will be entitled, 'The origins of the brass band and its importance to Wales'4BR

The lecture entitled, 'The origins of the brass band and its importance to Wales' will be presented by Prof Herbert, who also wrote an acclaimed musical and social history of the British brass band movement and who is a former Professor of Music at the Open University and a current Research Fellow at the Royal College of Music.
