scaba working hard to keep the entertainment going

One contest is cancelled but an exciting new festival event will be promoted as scaba continues to bring brass band music making to the public.

SCABA
The association is working hard to keep bringing brass band music to audiences at events

4BR has been informed that the scaba Entertainment Contest on 19th May has been cancelled.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Unfortunately we've been forced to cancel as the low number of entries meant the association was facing a financial loss.

It's frustrating as the date and venue of the event has been well known for many years and we've worked hard to make it as accessible and flexible as possible.

We are constantly reviewing all aspects of our contests, including dates and locations, and will be talking to local bands over the next few months to find out what factors influence which contests they choose to enter — or not."

4BR was informed that the next competition will now be the annual Autumn Contest on 29th September at The Hawth in Crawley, although it is hoped that the entertainment event will be run again in 20202.

New Festival of Brass

scaba continues to help promote brass banding in their region and will be holding a Festival of Brass at Borde Hill Garden, Haywards Heath (RH16 1XP) on Sunday 14th July between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

The spokesperson added: "We're delighted to launch this new non-competitive Brass Festival in association with Borde Hill Garden in West Sussex. There are no judges, no prizes, just the joy of making and hearing great brass music."

4BR was informed that Youth and Ungraded/Non-contesting bands are invited to come and perform a 20 minute programme of their own choice to an audience of fellow banders, families and friends.
