The 45th Swiss Solo & Quartet Championship was held recently in the historic town of Chur in the canton of Graubünden.
More than 150 performers performed in various categories in their bid to impress an international jury consisting of Sylvain Andrey, Stephane Duboux, Simon Estermann, Tim de Maeseneer, Rex Martin, Katrina Marzella, Michael Meinen and Lode Violet.
In return they stated that they were impressed by the technical and musical standard of the musicians, as well as the wonderful organisation led by hosts Brass Band Sursilvana.
Blue Riband champion
The winner of the Blue Riband Adult Section was Mathilde Roh from Treize Etoiles Band (above).
She successfully retained the title she won last performing a new work written by Bertrand Moren called 'King of Hell'.

Meanwhile, the keenly fought Junior Final was won by trombonist Eva Luisier from Bagnes who gave a thoroughly convincing performance '…Like in a Dream…', by Damien Lagger.
The remarkable youngster Noe Boulnoix from Conthey was crowned Minim Champion (under 12) for the fourth year in a row, playing Peter Kneale's 'Variations on a Welsh Theme', whilst llumination Brass from the canton of Jura won the First Division quartet honours whilst the Take Away Quartet took away Second Division title.
The CNSQ committee thanked Brass Band Sursilvana for the organisation and told 4BR that they were looking forward to collaborating with Brass Band Harmony Saanen for next year's event.
