St Pinnock Band has just started an intensive series of rehearsals ahead of playing their part in a new stage production of 'Third Light' by playwright Simon Parker to be staged at the famous Minack Theatre in Cornwall.
Fortunate village
First performed in 2014, the play tells the First World War story of Cornwall's 'fortunate village' through the memories of two old soldiers, Bert and Buzz, who find themselves reluctantly having to face yet another Remembrance Day parade.
This parade sequence requires a brass band, and with St Pinnock situated near the village of Herodsfoot, where the story is set, the band will perform as part of the cast for the production.
Great resonance
"It's both an exciting opportunity and poignant one,"David Johnson, St. Pinnock's newly appointed MD told 4BR: "The story is one that is well known in Cornwall and still has great resonance. It's a real privilege to take part."
As the play is based on event of close on a century ago the only problem has been for the band to wear a period brass band uniform, as Dave explained. "Our new jackets seem out of place historically so we have had to find as many of our older red ones as possible.
We are still a few short, so if anyone has one in a wardrobe somewhere please let us know."
