The final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award will be decided this evening in Manchester.
Finalists
Euphonium player Cameron Scott (aged 16), trombonist Sam Dye (18), cornetist Thomas Nielsen (16) and tenor horn player Ross Dunne (19) will take part in the final at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (8.00pm).
The event will be presented live on BBC Radio 2 by Ken Bruce and Frank Renton.
2017 winner
2017 winner, Isobel Daws (above), will provide a musical prelude to the evening with a performance of Philip Sparke's 'Capriccio for Trombone and Band' before each finalist will present a 10-minute programme accompanied by Foden's Band under Michael Fowles.
The North West Area champion will also give a short concert spot during the break when the adjudicators Black Dyke Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs, Helen Vollam, Principal Trombone of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and renowned trumpet player, Andrew Crowley will make their decision.
Illustrious company
The 14th winner so the prestigious title will follow in the footsteps of 2017 champion Isobel Daws and the likes of Daniel Thomas, Grant Jameson, Matilda Lloyd, Ben Thomson, Stephen Sykes, Lewis Musson, Matthew White, Josiah Walters, Katrina Marzella and Brendan Wheeler.
