The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators has been delighted with the latest response to their latest Young Adjudicator Scheme.
This year the project was promoted at the Yorkshire and London & Southern Counties Regional Championships.
At Stevenage the three youngsters, Daniel Hutchins, Dexter Speed and Imogen Coe were able to enjoy the adjudication experience as the First Section took place.
Thanks
AoBBA spokesperson Nicholas Garman told 4BR: "Our thanks go to the L&SC regional committee who looked after the participants brilliantly.
The participants were able to speak to the official adjudicators before and after the contest, were given the opportunity to adjudicate in contest conditions (positioned behind a screen) aided by the AoBBA mentor, and were also invited to take their place on stage afterwards."
He added: "All three equipped themselves so well and stated that the experience will inform their playing and help their future musical development. All appreciated the experience and enjoyed the opportunity to gain a greater insight into the work of an AoBBA adjudicator."
It's hoped that the scheme will be exported to more of the area contests next year to allow other young people the opportunity to learn a little more about the work of an adjudicatorNick Garman
Yorkshire grit
The Yorkshire Regional Committee also supported the scheme, although the terrible weather conditions prevented it fully running this year. However, thanks to the support of adjudicator Anne Crookston, the banding media and Regional Secretary Peggy Tomlinson, youngster Sophie Stevenson battled through the snow to thoroughly enjoy the event — and did a brilliant job.
Nick added: "It's hoped that the scheme will be exported to more of the area contests next year to allow other young people the opportunity to learn a little more about the work of an adjudicator."
Details on how to apply will appear in the banding press and on social media websites in January 2019.
