Black Dyke stars play a perfect sneaky blinder

Players from Black Dyke could be seen performing in the opening sequence to the new series of the hit period drama Peaky Blinders.

Peaky Blinders
The hit period drama series is seen by millions of viewers

There were a few unfamiliar faces to be seen in the latest episode of the hit BBC drama 'Peaky Blinders' which returned to the screens on the weekend.

The series (above) is based upon the exploits of a family of Birmingham gangsters just after the First World War, centering on the leader Thomas Shelby and the man charged with bringing him to justice, Major Chester Campbell.

Drama with a twist

The period drama with a twist of having a very 21st century soundtrack, violence and language has been a huge hit, with millions tuning in to see the first episode of the fourth series entitled, 'The Noose', which featured a cameo appearance of members of Black Dyke Band playing Christmas carols in the opening sequence.

Fitting in

One person tuning in was Black Dyke Director of Music Prof Nicholas Childs, who told 4BR: "It was a great experience for the members of the band to be asked to play a part in such a successful series.

Seeing Phil Goodwin in period costume playing the tuba in the opening scene didn't come as a surprise though. He fitted into the 1920s perfectly!"
