There is to be a wonderful musical celebration of the life of the much missed cornet player Eilir Williams at the University of Salford next month.
Special concert
Friends, colleagues and former players from the bands that he, and they played for, such as YBS, Fodens, Black Dyke, Leyland, Wingates, Salford University Band as well as his family band of Deiniolen from North Wales will present the special concert at Peel Hall on Wednesday 25th October.
Eilir passed away at last Christmas after a long and fearless battle against Multiple Sclerosis.
Friends
The band will be made up of as many friends as possible under the baton of conductor Michael Fowles with guest soloist being Mark Wilkinson, principal cornet of Foden's Band. The University of Salford Brass Band will also perform under the direction of Tom Davoren.
Special occasion
University spokesperson Dr Brett Baker told 4BR: "We are honoured to host this very special occasion for a wonderful person, talented musician and much missed former alumni."
Brett also announced that the concert will feature the premiere of 'Song for Eilir' — a cornet solo written by Dr Robin Dewhurst, dedicated to Eilir and performed by Mark Wilkinson, whilst a collection alongside donations will go towards a new musical scholarship fund, set up in his memory aimed at helping young musicians.
