The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has presented the renowned brass musician John Wallace CBE with its 'Outstanding Achievement Award'

The Patron of SBBA was presented with the honour at a concert given by the cooperation band last weekend in Glasgow. The occasion was chosen as the repertoire featured had been inspired and then transcribed by John to help raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Clinic, where he has recently undergone treatment.

Ever busy John maintained his creative expression by transcribing works by Dvorak, Rimsky-Korsakov, Wagner and Schumann which formed the core of the programme.

Admiration

The award was presented by SBBA honorary vice president Peter Fraser MBE who expressed not only his admiration for a player he known for many years, but that of all Scottish music lovers who have great pride in a career that has made a worldwide impact.

The recipient of the Queen's Medal for Music, was certainly taken back by the presentation, whilst the cooperation band's principal Katrina Marzella Wheeler said he was "a powerful testament to the transformative power of music and its ability to connect, heal and inspire."

Honoured

Katrina added: "We are all honoured to be performing John's transcriptions in a fundraising concert for the Beatson with guests from the hospital and special friends with us."
