Black Dyke will be performing at the Glastonbury Festival on Sunday morning

Black Dyke has headed to Glastonbury to perform on its famous Pyramid Stage.

The appearance of the Yorkshire Area champion at one of the world's great summer music festivals has created a great deal of media interest with news items on both the BBC and ITV (see the link below).

Black Dyke to Ed Sheeran

Directed by Prof Nicholas Childs the band will kick off a full day of music making on Sunday (10.30am) that includes Jamie Cullum, Barry Gibb, Chic and Biffy Clyro, before being rounded off with Hebden Bridge's very own Ed Sheeran

The BBC sent a film crew to spend two days with the band for a documentary which will feature acts from this year's event, with footage taken in and around the village of Queensbury, the famous Black Dyke bandroom and new Heritage Centre.

We are always innovative in our concert planning and aim to reach new audiences, especially those who wouldn't have been exposed to just what a world class brass band can achieveProf Nicholas Childs

Media coverage

Secretary David Hirst told 4BR: "We are all excited about the appearance on the Pyramid Stage and with the BBC2 and ITV coverage the media interest has made for a very hectic period for the band. However, come Sunday morning it's going to be fantastic.

Meanwhile, speaking on the ITV news item, Prof Nicholas Childs said: "We are always innovative in our concert planning and aim to reach new audiences, especially those who wouldn't have been exposed to just what a world class brass band can achieve. This is certainly going to be an amazing musical experience."
