Tredegar Band will be heading to the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall this weekend to work and perform with the Corps of Army Music.
MD Ian Porthouse will run a Student Bandmaster masterclass on Friday alongside principals of the Welsh band with players and students from various Army brass bands and Kneller Hall. They will work on pieces that will be performed by the massed bands for a special 'Concert in the Park' concert on Saturday evening.
Innovative projects
Capt Paul Collis-Smith, Director of Music at The Band of the Price of Wales Division told 4BR: "This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our links with the brass band movement, and to work with a band that has deserved reputation for innovative projects.
The aim of the masterclass is to give an insight on preparing brass band music and the subtle differences between wind and brass band conducting.
Talented
He added: "It is part of the student's 'Musical Direction Course', which lasts one year and develops the skill sets of some of the most talented bandmasters in the Corps of Army Music in preparation for them to be possibly assigned to one of the three of the Army's professional brass bands.
Members of The Corps of Army Music are greatly looking forward to working with Ian and his team from Tredegar, especially with what promises to be a wonderful concert in the famous bandstand in the grounds of Kneller Hall."
