Shipston rid themselves of seven year itch

Shipston Town Band has just rid itself of a seven year wait for contesting success — with the promise of perhaps more to come at the Area contest in Bedworth

Shipston
Shipston Town get ready to celebrate after ending their seven year wait for a contest victory.

Shipston Town Band and conductor Howard Gibbs have been celebrating a first taste of contesting success for seven years after claiming victory in the Fourth Section of the Oxfordshire and District BBA Winter Contest held at
Marlborough School last weekend.

Huge boost

It has also given the band a huge boost of confidence as they look forward to reprising the set-work, 'St Andrew's Variations' by Alan Fernie at the Midlands Regional Contest in Bedworth on Sunday 12th March — especially as the last time they tasted victory came at the Area event in 2010.

We really enjoyed plying the piece at a great contest, so to end a seven year wait was amazing. Now we hope to make it two in a row at BedworthBand secretary, David Birch

Hard work

Band Secretary David Birch told 4BR: "It was amazing result that has come from all the hard work of our conductor Howard Gibbs and the players.

We really enjoyed plying the piece at a great contest, so to end a seven year wait was amazing. Now we hope to make it two in a row at Bedworth."
