Smiles all round for next generation debut at Wantage

The smiles of delight from players and parents alike should form the foundation for the future success of the Wantage Band organisation.

Wantage
The future success of the Wantage Band organisation looks to be secure after a great Beginner's debut.

The latest generation of youthful talent that will hopefully ensure the future success of Wantage Silver Band has just performed in its first concert.

For the past month the Beginner's Group has been getting together once a week, but for this event they concentrated all their efforts into a day-long workshop at the organisation's purpose-built rehearsal base, where the 33 players aged from 6 to 13 came under the baton of Bandmaster Sam Wyne.

Smiles

He told 4BR:"It was so successful, and we couldn't quite believe how much progress everyone made on the day. The smiles told the story I think, and it was great to see the support from the families who came along for the concert that rounded things off."

Great music

The new ensemble performed plenty of great music, including 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', and as one thrilled parent told 4BR: "The kids were amazing and everyone had such a great time."

That was certainly the case for 10 year old Lily Yates who said: "I had the best day ever. I didn't realise it was going to be so much fun."
