Michelmersh Silver topped the entertainment stakes at the recent Oxfordshire & District BBA Contest held at Marlborough School in Oxfordshire.

Three point victory

Under the baton of MD Wayne Landen the West of England First Section band took to the stage as the last contender of a highly enjoyable day to claim a three-point victory over rivals Kidlington Concert Brass with Rushden Town in third.

It was a day to remember as the victory was Michelmersh's first since 2009. They not only took the overall honours but also picked up the 'Best First Section Band' prize alongside the 'Best Soprano' accolade for Connie Boler.

Time penalty

Kidlington was left to rue the incursion of a two-point time penalty, although their fine euphonium player Ben Abbott claimed the 'Best Open Section Soloist' award and their horn team picked up the 'Best Horn Section' prize.

A spirited Rushden took home the prizes for 'Best Entertainment', 'Best Second Section Band' and 'Best Percussion' with MD, Adele Hudson taking the 'Best Conductor' accolade as they also tickled the fancy of adjudicators Derek Broadbent and Dave Lea.

Other Section awards went to Oxford Cherwell, Marsh Gibbon and Yarnton.
