BBC Radio 2 has announced details of the Radio 2 Young Brass Musician 2017.
The award is the network's nationwide search for emerging young brass musicians, and provides performers with the chance to progress with their future in music, as well as an opportunity to showcase their musical talents.
Entries
The competition is open to brass players from the ages of 16 to 21 who must be resident in the UK.
Based on the initial entries, eight successful semi-finalists will be invited to record up to 10 minutes of music of their own choice with Foden's Band at the BBC Studios in Salford on Saturday 11th February.
Four finalists
The judges will then select four players to go through to the final, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 from the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester on Friday 21st April.
The winner will get the chance to perform on Radio 2's 'Listen to the Band' and will also secure a broadcast performance with an established ensemble.
Winners
Previous winners include Matilda Lloyd who this summer made her solo Proms debut and toured as principal trumpet with the European Union Youth Orchestra and Ross Knight, who attended the Karajan Academy in Berlin and performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra before becoming the Principal Tuba with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva.
