3G connection at Tullis Russell

Three generations of family playing talent will come together for the first time later this month at the Tullis Russell Mills organisation

Tullis Russell Mills
Three generations of the Hamilton family will take to the stage in Kirkcaldy later this month.

When the Tullis Russell Intermediate Band takes to the stage at the Fife Charities Open Contest in Kirkcaldy later this month a little bit of history will be made.

Three generations

The reason is that one family will be represented by three generations of playing talent.

Making his contest debut will be 13 year old Cameron Hamilton who is the most recent success story of the band's excellent youth development initiative.

Cameron has played with the Tullis Russell Youth Band for the last two years, making progress which has earned him the chance to compete with one of the two senior Tullis contesting bands.

Mum, Dad and Grandad

He will now join his mum Karen, who plays soprano for the Tullis Intermediate Band, as well as his Grandad Chic Masson who plays euphonium. Just so he's not left out completely, Cameron's dad Paul will also be on stage with the senior Tullis Russell Mills Band.

Young players

A band spokesman told 4BR: "It's great to see young players coming through the youth band set-up to slot right into the next level at Tullis.

Also making his contest debut will be Aidan McCallum who has moved instrument to cover one of the bass parts due to holidays. Aidan has also come up through the youth band system."

Family ties

The Tullis Russell organisation is in fact no stranger to family ties, and can boast six married couples playing in the two contesting bands, three families with three or more players in the organisation and four brother and sister combinations!
