The Swiss Brass Band Association (SBBA) has launched its Composer Competition with the aim of promoting the creation of outstanding new music for brass bands.
National Championships
In addition, the winning entries will also be considered to be used as set-works at the Swiss National Championships in Montreux (above).
A spokesperson told 4BR: "The Swiss Brass Band Association has always contributed to the extension of the brass band repertoire by regularly commissioning new works — and would like to continue this with our Composer Competition."
Worldwide
Worldwide entrants of any age can submit works for consideration at a number of different levels — recognising the levels of technical and musical difficulty at Fourth, through Third, Second, First and elite Championship level. The works must be submitted anonymously by carefully following the entry requirements.
Prizes
The first prize is a substantial CHF 4,000, with additional prizes of CHF 3,000 and CHF 2,000.
The jury will announce the names of the prizewinners in February 2017.
