Composer Edward Gregson will be making a welcome return trip to Wales this year as part of the International Brass Band Summer School in Swansea.
Conducting platform
The man who has produced many of the most important brass band compositions of the last 40 years and is a former MD of the National Youth Band of Wales, will share the conducting platform with Course Director Prof Nicholas Childs at the end course concert, as well as working with delegates.
In the past few years the course has attracted a roll-call of some of the most high-profile compositional talent in the banding world — including Paul Lovatt-Cooper, Peter Graham and Philip Wilby, so little wonder Prof Childs was delighted that the current Composer in Residence at Black Dyke accepted his invitation to join him in Swansea.
Highlight
He told 4BR: "I'm delighted to be sharing the conducting podium with Edward Gregson, where we will highlight his wonderful music.
The Sovereign and Prestige Bands will perform 'March Prelude', and 'Prelude for an Occasion' whilst the massed bands will perform his majestic 'Variations on Laudate Dominum', with the composer at the helm."
