East London Brass will help celebrate the compositional lives of two of the finest composers to have written for the genre at a unique concert at Cadogan Hall in July.
The event, named 'Milestones', is in honour of Joseph Horovitz — now in his 90th year, and Derek Bourgeois, who is in his 75th — and will see East London Brass link up with the acclaimed Addison Singers at the west London venue on Saturday 9th July.
World premiere
The programme will contain the world premiere of the brass band version of the Bourgeois 'Tuba Concerto No. 2', which the composer has written specially for the occasion. The soloist will be ELB's David Carter.
The concert will also see a rare performance of the Horovitz oratorio, 'Samson', written in 1977. It will feature the 100-strong Addison Singers with baritone soloist John Evanson, as well as works by William Walton and Gordon Jacob, composers who influenced Bourgeois and Horovitz.
Fantastic opportunity
ELB Musical Director Jayne Murrill told 4BR: "This is a fantastic opportunity to bring classic brass band music to a discerning audience at Cadogan Hall.
We're really excited about performing such original pieces, and we are very grateful to Derek Bourgeois for the work he's done on the tuba concerto for us. All that and sound we make together with the choir is just phenomenal!"
