4BR has been informed that after six highly successful years as solo horn with Black Dyke, Jonathan Bates will leave the band to concentrate on his increasing composing and solo performance commitments.
During this time with the current Yorkshire Regional champion, the player (above) has also won European, Open and National titles as well as being featured regularly as both a soloist and as a composer.
Great time
He stated: "I have had a great time at Black Dyke. However, as I approach my final year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester as a composition and performance student, I need to allocate equal time to these increasing demands.
With Black Dyke's extremely busy schedule it is difficult to juggle these passions together."
Most talented
Meanwhile, Black Dyke Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs commented; "Jonathan is one of the most talented young musicians I have ever met, and I wish him every success in his future ventures.
His ever growing portfolio of music is impressive, and it is equally understandable that he would like a little more time to prioritise. I do hope though that Black Dyke will continue to perform many more of Jonathan's compositions in the future."
