Saddleworth champion
The Youth Band, directed by Sean Conway, entered six competitions; winning an impressive five first prizes at Uppermill, Greenfield, Dobcross, Lydgate, Denshaw, and one second at Diggle.
Their impressive performances also secured the Deportment prize at Lydgate and the 'Best Soprano' and 'Best Euphonium Section' prizes at Dobcross, resulting in the band retaining the Saddleworth Youth Champion title.
Junior Blast
Meanwhile, Junior Blast, directed by Lee Rigg, made up of 40 primary school children, played at four contests — Delph, Denshaw, Dobcross and Uppermill. It was a wonderful experience for the young band members, especially as they returned home with the Youth Deportment prize from Uppermill.
In addition, the Intermediate Band also took part in the traditional morning Whit Walks in Mossley.

Proud
Julie Morris, Director of Music, told 4BR: "We are extremely proud of all the students that took part. It was a difficult evening due to the heavy rain but the bands continued to perform to the best of their ability.
Junior Blast got a fantastic reception from the crowds and the Youth Band's achievement was outstanding. Everyone will now enjoy a well-earned rest over half term before they begin working towards the Music for Youth competition at Symphony Hall in Birmingham."
