Report & Results: 2016 Wood Farm Brewery Entertainment

Enderby, Towcester and Enderby Juniors take the entertainment honours and enjoy the brewery celebrations.

Enderby

The Enderby Band headed the list of winners at the recent Wood Farm Brewery Entertainment Contest.

The format required each of the 17 bands to perform a 25 minute entertainment set that had to include a solo item, with the senior Enderby Band coming out on top under the baton of Simon Gresswell as they beat off the keen challenge of Kibworth and Wigston.

To add to the first place, the band also won overall 'Band of the Day' title, whilst their solo euphonium Chris Small took the 'Best Soloist' award and the overall 'Best Soloist' prize.

Delighted

A delighted MD Simon Gresswell commented: "I was delighted with the band's form. The judges commented on how they liked the balance of the programme and of course the playing was of a very high standard. My congratulations also go to Chris for his best soloist awards."

It rounded off a fine day for the Enderby organisation which has supported the event since its inception. Three bands played their part, with Enderby Concert competing in Section 'A' for unregistered bands and Enderby Junior Band taking the title to emulate the senior band's achievement.

Towcester victory

The Section B event saw Towcester Studio carry on their good run of recent form under the baton of Neil Brownless as they claimed the title ahead of Melton and Ratby Mid.

Their winning programme opened with 'Prismatic Light' before flugel soloist John Mudway gave a fine performance of 'God Only Knows'. The up-tempo 'Pencil Full of Lead' led into 'Shine Down' before they closed with the crunching Meatloaf hit 'Bat out of Hell'.
