The award-winning Brass Compass euphonium quartet is getting closer to its goal of competing at the 2016 International Tuba and Euphonium Contest (ITEC) to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Support
Generous support and welcome financial help has already been given to the talented performers from the Royal Northern College of Music comprising Adam Bokaris, Vincent Tan, Marija Anna Novicane and Seth Livingstone, but they are now hoping they can bridge the last financial gap to make it to the USA.
All are second year undergraduates from diverse musical backgrounds — hence the name — and all are taught by renowned euphonium maestros David Thornton and Steven Mead.
Fundriasing
Adam told 4BR: "Following the report on 4BR we have gained generous support that has pushed us towards the USA.
We will now perform at the National Youth Championships at the RNCM on Sunday and we've set up a brand new fundraising page that will be active for the next 30 days. We can see the stage in Knoxville on the horizon!"
New works
The group hopes to compete in the semi-final stage of the Quartet Competition in Knoxville, with group members, Vincent Tan and Adam Bokaris competing in the semi-final stage of the Artist Division Euphonium Contest.
"We are delighted to have been chosen to attend this elite conference and have commissioned an exciting new work by Jonathan Bates, entitled 'Polar Landscapes', to add to the depth of repertoire in our programme. We have also had 'Insomniac' specially arranged of us by the composer Paul McGhee.
Thanks again to all of our supporters — we will try our best to make you all proud at the conference!"
