The Directorate of Music and Dance at Salford University has announced that Tom Davoren has been appointed as Conductor in Residence.
He will now lead the University Brass Band and tutor conducting students as part of their renowned graduate and post-graduate courses.
Conducting option
Students at the university have the option of conducting wind and brass ensembles in the first and second year of study, with the opportunity to take the lead of the university's second brass band, the Adelphi Brass, or the Symphonic Wind Ensemble in their final year of studies.
Tom's (above) first engagement will be at Regent Hall in London on 22nd April before directing the University Brass Band at the directorate's annual charity concert, to be held in Peel Hall on 4th May.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "This appointment further strengthens the world-class opportunities for talented conductors. Students already benefit from working with the likes of David Thornton, Paul Lovatt-Cooper, Stewart Halliday and Paul Holland, as well as receiving further guidance from Professor Emeritus David King, Dr. Brett Baker and Dan Price."
They added: "Composition and arranging students also have the opportunity to write for a range of ensembles, including the wind band, brass band, big band and chamber groups, where student work is performed in weekly events to be led by Tom and Dan."

Accompanist
It was also announced that the university will continue to offer a weekly session with an accompanist for final year students studying classical performance.
There has been a significant increase in applications and acceptance onto the Musical Arts Degree Programme for the 2016-2017 academic year with participant numbers over 30% higher than those accepted in 2014-15.
